Asia’s first ever Green Rest Area which is located at the Southern Expressway from Kottawa to Pinnaduwa (Galle) was ceremonially opened by on 6th December 2012.
This Service Area is under the Ministry of Finance.

The Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation has been entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining and managing the rest area. It conducts the facilities Management wing of the Canowin Arcade and conduct Security services, Janitorial Services, Waste Management, Energy Efficient Lighting solutions, proposed solar power generations and Energy Management Services to enhance the Brand image of the Sri Lanka’s first ever Green Rest Area and pave the way to future rest area projects
